Alicia tried to get me into Coheed when the third record came out, I was opposed to the sound. She still gives me shit about how much I love them. Like, every record is a concept album, and they have cool synths.
It’s such a weird band. And like so much mythology, I have not read the books, but would like to. There is so much of what they do that is metal, but also they are doing both big synths Rush sound and also the radio-friendly Rush pop songs sound.
And the happier the song sounds in the hook, the more fucked up the suicidal ideations he’s singing. Like I think when they first came out, I was too depressed to mock depression like that.
